DACSSA welcomes the news that Integrity Care has been ordered to shut down as investigations continue into the death of the late Ann Marie Smith.
The organisation was responsible for Ms Smith’s care when she died in April from severe septic shock, organ failure, severe pressure sores, malnutrition and issues relating to her cerebral palsy.

The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission released a statement yesterday, confirming that it has revoked Integrity Care’s registration and issued a banning order, over what it describes as a number of breaches of the NDIS Act. The registration revocation becomes effective tomorrow, however the ban will come into effect next week.

In a week when another support worker in SA has been charged with the sexual assault of a woman with disability in his care, DACSSA continues to be highly concerned at the unacceptable prevalence and culture of disability abuse.

More action is required on a systemic level to safeguard against the abuse of people with disability, to ensure their safety and restore confidence. Attitudes must also be challenged.

DACSSA remains committed to advocating for systemic change that upholds the rights of people with disability.
