Equal Opportunity (Miscellaneous) Amendments Bill 2008

The Hon Gail Gago MLC, has on the 26 November 2008, introduced the Equal Opportunity (Miscellaneous) Amendments Bill 2008 into the Upper House of the South Australian Parliament. It is anticipated that his legistlation will be debated in February 2009.

 

The Hon Gail Gago MLC, has  on the 26 November 2008, introduced the Equal Opportunity (Miscellaneous) Amendments Bill 2008 into the Upper House of the South Australian Parliament. It is anticipated that his legistlation will be debated in February 2009.

 

This bill covers new grounds of discrimination such as religious dress, caring responsibilities and breast feeding, avoid unfair treatment in the workplace, marketplace and at educational institutions.

 

This Bill expands current legislation against disability discrimination to match the definition in the Common wealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992. The Bill extends cover to areas such as mental illness, learning disabilities and being infected with a condition that is not yet symptomatic.

 

As this Bill passes through both Houses of Parliament DACSSA will endevour to update its progress.
